Fall and Delicious Apple Pies!
We’ve been having fun talking about fall! The colours, the smell, the sound of crunching leaves under our feet... all these things remind us that fall is in the air! We completed a beautiful art project that had us using fall colours, and crunching tinfoil (which is the same sound as crunching leaves), and dabbing our painted tinfoil to make fall foliage on our tree!
Although the school wide Terry Fox run happened in the afternoon, we had a great time creating our own run/walk for a good cause!
Students are sure enjoying wearing all the colours each week. We are learning a colour song (which teaches your child how to spell the word), and we are also learning the sign language gesture for each colour.
A huge thank you to the parents who came and helped out for the apple Pies! It wasn’t all about just eating the delicious pies. We completed an apple investigation where we investigated the size, weight, height and discovered how many red and green apples we had as a class.
In addition to an apple investigation sheet, we also did some subsidizing with dice and found the correct apple to colour. Subsidizing for adults comes naturally. We can look at a side of a die and know right away what the number is without having to count the dots one by one. This is what subsidizing means and for children, they need to learn this skill.
Students are also enjoying guessing what their friends show and share items are! I help your child read the clues you send to school and the class Guesses what the item is. Once the special item is revealed, we draw a picture of the item in our journals, and write our friends name.
What I have enjoyed most about this last week is listening to students responses on how they feel thankful! Here are a few of the things we created for Thanksgiving. All of these items have been glued in your child’s scrapbooks and the scrapbooks will be coming home in early November.
Lastly, we enjoyed read in week by listening to a story read by the Strathcona library!
