Kindergarten is in full swing!
Welcome 2019-2020 Kindergarten Families to our class blog page!
I created this blog page as an additional way to share what is going on in our classroom and to be able to share pictures with all of you! I will continue to share the odd picture here and there on class dojo, but this is a better site to share LOTS of pictures, and to explain in more details what we are doing in class.
I would say kindergarten is in full swing, and your children are learning the routines very well!! We have also been doing lots of learning and fun activities!
On the first day of school our furry raccoon Chester went missing from our classroom. We went to lots of different places and talked to many people in the school before finding him in Mr. Kucy's office! Mr. Kucy surprised the students with another furry friend that stays in his office.
Students loved going to library on Thursday. Mrs. Scoggins is our librarian and always starts our library block with a fun story!
In kindergarten, play time is just as important as learning our letters and numbers. Children at school are learning to share toys, use language to express how they are feeling. Fine and gross motor skills are developing, and expressive language is emerging! Center time happens almost every day and students get to rotate around the classroom to 4 different centers that incorporate important play skills.
Students have been enjoying learning about two colors so far. Red and blue! Ask your child to sing you the red or blue song at home and see if they know the words. I will be sending home a complete color song book next week so you can practice these songs at home too. For the color red, we completed a great fine motor activity where students had to rip construction paper and paste them on an apple. They turned out so well that I have them hanging in the classroom!
For the color blue, we read a story about Pete the cat and made these cute headbands!
Students learned the first letter in our animated literacy unit. We start each letter with meeting a character, who has a story. Letter P's character is Polly Panda and Polly was famous for making her signature with pink or purple paint. So of course, we needed to try this fun signature too!!
Safety City is a favorite field trip by most kindergarten students who go through Holy Spirit Catholic School!! We learned about the 7 steps to road safety and these 7 steps came home with each of your children in their safety city booklets.
Our in class Wilderness Center field trip was a great learning experience for all of us. Jeanine from SWC came and talked to the class about 4 different animals (beaver, muskrat, squirrel, mouse). She explained that fall is coming and during the fall these animals begin getting ready for winter. She explained how they make their homes, find their food, and how they survive in the winter. Students had the chance to "dress up" like a beaver, complete with a beaver tail! (Yes that is Sophia underneath their)! We went outside after to play a game where our parent helpers became a tree and a bird seeder and students had to find food and store it for the winter.
Reading is FUN and such a Big learning accomplishment. Although I am not expecting any of them to be reading yet...It was nice to see how PROUD they were of themselves when they could read the P book to their friends. These books will come home every time we learn a new letter. I would encourage you to allow your children to read these simple books to you.

As you can see, we have had a BUSY couple of weeks!!
I will typically add to this blog page once or twice a month and share all the exciting things that are happening in kindergarten!!
