Edgar the Elf and Snowmen
We got right into the swing of December in kindergarten! On Monday, students found a little elf friend in our classroom. With him was an Elf book that we read. As the book said, we needed to decide on a name for our elf. I loved hearing all their creative choices. We voted, and the majority (13 students), voted on Edgar. This was the name of the Elf we met last week in our animated literacy resource. Edgar will fly back to the North Pole every night, and come back to our classroom every day where he will find a new place to hide. The students really enjoyed coming in each day this week to look for our elf friend. I am also loving hearing about all of their elfs at home! The spirit of Christmas is so alive in all their hearts. It really is a magical time, and I am blessed to share it with all of them!
A new month, also meant a new centre! The Santa’s workshop has been a favourite!! Students are loving putting on their elf aprons and getting to work with Christmas cards, taking calls from Elf’s from the North Pole, and wrapping presents!
We have also been focusing on snowmen! The weatherman must of got our class memo that one needs snow to make snowman!! One of my favourite books is titled “Snowman at Night”. It’s about the idea that if snowmen came to life at night, what would they do? Dance, sing, go tobogganing, drink hot chocolate! Students made a craft and had to answer the question, “If I were a snowman at night I would....”. Ask your child how they responded to this question.
This week we also celebrated the first week of advent, and how advent is a time to prepare our minds and hearts for the birth of baby Jesus. The theme for the first week of advent is hope. Ask your child what hope means to them. This week we have been focusing on peace.
We also spent some time with the grade 7 buddies and they helped the kindergarten students paint pots that we took to Greenland garden centre. Students will plant a paper white flower into their pots on Tuesday and they will go home on Tuesday. You will see then how beautifully they turned out!
